Drastic Changes In The Canada Immigration Laws

Canada is fast becoming a country where people want to settle for the rest of their lives due its upcoming prospects in every fields that is employment opportunities, education and many more factors; so the number of immigrants are quite large in number in Canada.

Canada is one of the countries that is built on immigration & they are quite lucky that they have different skills & abilities because of the diversity of it's immigrants. Canada has certainly changed the immigration process to its best. The new citizenship rules that came into effect from the 17th April 2009, had the main purpose of reducing the citizenship granted to the people who didn't really have a connection with Canada.

The Canadians immigration laws kept changing from time to time right from 1910 immigration act in which government was forced to create a formal policy to focus on immigrant's country of origin. Then in 1930 the government concerns shifted from expansion to preservation because of the ceasing of immigration. Then a large no of changes were made in 1960's & 70's in the immigration act. The most important change was that the government shifted its focus on the skills and abilities of the immigrant, rather than his country of origin. Then a major change in immigration act came in 1978. It was based on 3 principles: to reunite Canadian residents with their overseas family, to fulfill the humanitarian & refugee obligations & to build a strong Canadian economy. Than dramatic change took place in 1985 when a law in which an immigrant should have prearranged employment was removed. The result of which was the no. of immigrants rose to 85%.

So the new law states that the citizenship will be given back to the people who were born outside Canada on or after January 1, 1947 and those who are part of first generation which were born abroad to Canadian citizens.
